< Periodic Visitor >
16"x12"

The numbers and words incorporated into this print’s composition refer to the fact that
both annual and periodic cicadas emerge as nymphs to begin their adult lives after living underground
for periods of years that are always prime numbers. Brood X, cited in this print,
has the greatest range and concentration of any of the 17 year cicadas.
In 2004, during the most recent emergence of Brood X, Marilyn was fascinated to observe
the huge numbers of adult cicadas and the high decibel, rhythmic “singing”
of the males during frenzied
mating activities.
